Le Chevalier de Lascombes 2021, Margaux (2nd wine of Lascombes) (750ml)

Country/Region: Margaux, Bordeaux

Background: Château Lascombes is classified as a Second Growth (Deuxième Cru Classé) in the historic 1855 Bordeaux Classification, reflecting its long‑standing prestige and quality. Its second wine, Le Chevalier de Lascombes, is not a lesser product but an essential component of the estate’s quality‑control philosophy, allowing the château to maintain the exceptional standards of its grand vin while offering a refined, approachable expression of the estate’s style.

Winemaking: The grapes are hand‑harvested and carefully sorted before fermentation in temperature‑controlled stainless‑steel or concrete vats, allowing precise expression of each parcel. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels for around 12–18 months, with 20–30% new oak typically used for a second wine, adding gentle notes of vanilla and spice while preserving the purity of the fruit.

Grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot

Tasting note: The wine shows a bright, translucent ruby‑red colour with an aromatic, fresh nose of red cherries, crushed raspberries and redcurrants, lifted by subtle violet notes, a hint of wet stone minerality and a touch of cedar. The palate is medium‑bodied with lively acidity, offering vibrant red‑berry flavours that echo the nose, supported by fine, silky tannins that make it immediately approachable. The oak is well‑integrated, adding gentle spice without overshadowing the fruit. The finish is clean and refreshing, lingering with red‑fruit purity and a trace of stony minerality.

Food Pairing: Poultry, Pork, Lamb, Vegetarian, Cheese
