Pierre Gruber Maranges 1er Cru Rouge 2022 (750ml)
Country/Region: Maranges 1er Cru, Burgundy, France
Background: Created in 1964, Maison Pierre GRUBER has been the cornerstone of Domaine Jean-Luc & Paul Aegerter’s Burgundian activities since 1988.
Winemaking: After being hand-harvested, the grapes are placed in stainless steel tanks for pre-fermentation maceration lasting 2 to 4 days. Alcoholic fermentation is initiated using only natural, indigenous yeasts to preserve the wine’s authenticity. Malolactic fermentation and ageing are carried out in oak barrels for 8 to 12 months, giving the wine structure, complexity, and balance.
Tasting Note:
A dazzling, bright scarlet robe announces a vibrant and expressive wine. On the nose, it reveals aromas of black fruits such as blackcurrant and blackberry, alongside red fruits like cherry and redcurrant. Subtle earthy tones of humus and undergrowth add depth. As it ages, the bouquet develops into notes of truffle, leather, and spice. On the palate, the wine is youthful and crisp, offering the charm of fresh grapes. It is firm, direct, and juicy, eventually unfolding into a well-structured and generous red Burgundy. This Beaune Premier Cru impresses with its fleshy, textured mouthfeel and energy.
Food Pairing: This wine is ideally suited to rich and flavourful meats, particularly roasted or braised game. It also pairs exceptionally well with washed-rind cheeses known for their bold character, including Epoisses, Soumaintrain, Munster, and Maroilles.
Grapes: Pinot Noir
